New Caney – Now that $9 million in Grand Texas infrastructure projects are complete and lending has been secured, construction of Big Rivers Waterpark is scheduled to begin this August. The waterpark–a 40-acre park inspired by Texas rivers–will be open for business next summer.
Last year saw the opening of the first two elements of Grand Texas: the Grand Texas RV Park and Speedsportz Racing Park. Construction of Speed Street—a quarter-mile road that created an entrance to Speedsportz Racing Park—was also completed last year. At a cost of $1.2 million, Speed Street is the first part of more than two miles of public roads that will be a part of Grand Texas at build-out.
Once construction of the waterpark is complete, development focus will shift to construction of the Grand Texas Theme Park, the Sportsplex, and the Grove Factory Outlets. The Grand Texas Theme Park will feature five roller coasters, dozens of rides, and an emphasis on live entertainment. The Sportsplex will offer multi-use fields for soccer, lacrosse, rugby, and 7-on-7 football, softball fields, and baseball fields, all suitable for tournament play. Finally, the factor outlets will provide an anticipated 350,000 square feet of retail space.
